Learning to release in order to gain happiness

August 21st, 2008 by Tanisha

Sorry it took me a bit longer to write this week, I’ve been in the midst of preparing to launch my group coaching program as well as my online radio show and making some changes in my life that are needed.

I will tell you and I’m probably not the first to tell you that there are things in our lives that can hold us back from achieving our goals. When one eats high raw or 100% raw you gain clarity in such a way that you realize that something’s might be hindering you from accomplishing your goals.

I believe that sometimes these things can hold us back. For example, do you have a hard time getting up for work? Do you dread Monday Morning? Are you stressed about work before you get there? These are signs that it is time to get a different job or find what your passion really is. This alone can make it difficult to achieve the goals you want to achieve. This constant pressure of being somewhere you do not want to be can hinder you. There are ways to make it work for a while but I would suggest working on a plan to exit this job, why? because it can hinder your growth. Going raw definitely help us learn who we are and what we want, we need to follow and trust our instincts.

Sometimes we choose to stay at our job because of money but that is not a great reason to stay. Stress can kill I believe it’s far healthier to work somewhere that you like as opposed to somewhere you don’t like. Maybe you want to run your own business but your current job is so stressful you cannot focus, well a solution would be to find another job, which would be fresh for a year or two that way you can still work and not be under so much stress while working on building your business.

There can be other situations like your current relationship or where you live, all of these things can cause you to fail. They can cause you to fall of track with your eating goals. I know this from personal experience.

I have been working hard on releasing what is no longer important to me. If you are struggling to figure out what is holding you back from your goals start keeping track of how you feel in regards to different situations you encounter on a daily basis. This will give you an idea of what areas in your life that you need to address.

Making Goals

August 12th, 2008 by Tanisha

I’ve doing a lot of thinking and learning a lot while on this journey. Everyday each and every one of us renew our goals, we either stick to them or stray away, it’s something we work at on a daily basis.

I found that for me I have to renew everyday, you can’t let your guard down especially when you have dealt with any type of addiction. I don’t think it has to be cumbersome or to much but we always have to be prepared for all situations.

Something I haven’t talked about a lot is that my husband is not totally raw but he is working towards including more raw food in his diet. He does like smoothies almost daily, and I enjoy making them for him.

I found that one thing we always had in common was eating. Eating out at restaurants. That was a staple for us, we loved it. We found that we had some of our best conversations over food and let me tell you trying to stop this habit has not been an easy one.

I am grateful that he respects my wish to eat raw and that he is very open to selecting restaurants that carry items I want to eat. If my husband was inconsiderate I don’t know how that would have affected my ability to eat raw.

I have learned that when trying to change a bad habit it’s best to take it one step at a time. If you are use to eating out a lot like 5 days a week, make a goal to only go 3 days the next two weeks and then decrease from there.

What is also very important is having a goal in mind of how you want to eat, if that is 100% raw create a list of restaurants where you can eat 100% raw or places in mind that both of you can eat and you can have a good salad. I found that Chipotle and Qudoba  have great salads, I tend to bring my own dressing, but most times I don’t need it.

If your plan is to eat high raw do the same, create a list of restaurants that will allow you to remain on track.

It might also be a good idea to set some boundaries, like this:

I plan to only eat out at restaurants 1 time a week, when I eat out I will remain raw/vegan (Whatever you goal is) I will always eat raw for Breakfast and For Lunch and you could also say I only eat out at restaurants on Saturdays or when with family and friends, but even then I always stay within my goals.

So here is the breakdown:

Sunday - Friday:  Eat 100% Raw

Saturday: Breakfast and Lunch is raw,  For dinner I will eat at restaurant and remain Raw or Vegan, whatever your goal is.

Vegan in your terms could mean: Steamed veggies and/or Baked Sweet Potato(Plain), I would be very specific about this as well because this will help you when making decisions at restaurants.

Basically what I am getting at is that I suggest that you be specific with your goals, I believe this has helped me a lot. Mind you, I’m not perfect, I don’t believe anyone is but it has helped me a lot.

Are you Struggling to Stay raw?

August 3rd, 2008 by Tanisha

For some the road to eating raw food seems very easy, some people are not as connected to food as others.

It’s funny how our connection to food or how we view food can really affect our ability to change.

As I look back at my life, I see that I’ve used food as a tool to cope a tool to sedate me from my problems. I grew up in a broken family it hurt so bad that I couldn’t relate to anything but food, I always knew food would be there for me, it was something that would remain constant when everything else would not.

So as you see above, I always knew food would be there for me, when no one else would. Don’t get me wrong I did have family that loved me but I also had some that did not seem to love me like they should.

I bet a lot of you who are struggling with eat raw consistently or maintain your goals to lose weight etc…  may have some issues like this, or  maybe you don’t recognize them, it’s possible.

Sometimes it’s those underlying issues that really need to be addressed and worked on before any lifestyle change can remain consistent.

I have a wonderful program that I have created to help you deal with this issue, I can’t wait to release the details, but I believe it will be a program that will change lives. It’s time to focus on our dreams and goals and not our next meal.

It’s time to change!!!

Be sure to Subscribe to my blog so that you receive the details of this program when I announce it.

Toxic People

July 29th, 2008 by Tanisha

I know this blog is about raw but I just had to talk about Toxic People. I know that there are a number of us who are dealing with Food Addiction. I know most of my life I have dealt with addiction to food and only now have I been able to overcome this addiction. It takes constant work everyday on my part. It’s not hard but when you’ve dealt with addiction you have to keep on top of it.

The topic is Toxic people. As many of you know people can bring us down, and bring us down hard. When someone is dealing with any addiction and feel any type of pressure they are more then likely to cave if they have no control over it. Sometimes there are people in our lives that hurt us or try to put guilt on us.

Today I had this happen, from someone I love and someone I thought loved me. This person tried to tell me how they were giong to hurt themselves if I didn’t do something for them, and that the next time I talked to them they’d be in Jail or something, because I didn’t buy there cigarettes. Before, I would have been so sad and would have done whatever I could but not this time. One thing I’ve realized is that I don’t deserve to have the guilt of someone elses problems, they cannot blame me because they cannot afford to take care of there habit, it is not my fault. I refuse to take on this persons problem and I refuse to feel guilty because they want to smoke cigarettes and they cannot afford them.

I personally believe that we should not ever feel guilty for someone elses problems and also we should not go on harming ourselves becaue of there problems. Before I use to cry and eat my heart out when things like this would happen because guess what this situation has occured several times in the past with this person.

I have decided that I love myself enough to not worry about other peoples problems. I care about people but when someone tries to place guilt on you about the decisions they made it isn’t love, they are not loving you, they are not supporting you, they are trying to hurt you because they are hurting.

I write this because I bet there are many of you out there who have toxic people in your life, some people don’t have no concern as to how they make you feel or how they have hurt you. Sometimes toxic people are enough to make a person fail and not meet there own goals.

I am so grateful that I can now recognize situations like these because if I didn’t I would go on hurting because of someone elses problems because they tried to transfer there pain over to me.

It’s real, people can transfer there problems on to you and cause you to be down, if you let them.

Be aware of toxic people and don’t allow people to hurt you and place there problems on your back, you don’t deserve it.

I told this person that I love them and that if they love me they would never try to make me feel guilty for the life they choose to live.

Take care of yourself, and don’t allow people to bring you down with them.

Food Irradiation

July 27th, 2008 by Tanisha
Radura - Food Irradiation Logo

Radura - Food Irradiation Logo

Did you know that it’s possible that some of the food you buy is Irradiated?

Food Irradiation is food that is exposed to Gamma Rays a form of radioactive materials. It’s somewhat like putting food
through an machine that penetrates the food using some kind of short wavelength.

Food irradiation was produced as a protective measure per the FDA to destroy harmful bacteria, delay ripening, inhibit
sprouting of certain vegetables, and more. Food irradiation has been around for over 40 years.

You may be wondering how healthy Food Irradiation is. Well we really don’t know, the longest study on humans was about 15
weeks long, not really long enough to know the long term effects on humans. It is believed that Irradiated foods can lose 2
to 85 percent of nutrients, it is also believed that the enzymes are killed during this process.

Irradiation is just a sad way to tell mainstream farmers it’s ok to continue with unsanitary methods used while producing
food because it will be irradiated. According to http://www.purefood.org/irrad/irradfact.cfm, Irradiation doesn’t kill all of the bacterial in food. Bacteria
like Botulism and viruses and prions that cause mad cow disease may still be in the food after it’s Irradiated. Also, if meats
and poultry are left out the bacteria that was not removed by Irradiation can multiply.

Here is a list of some of the foods that are irradiated:

  • Meat
  • Spices and seasonings
  • Grains
  • Fruits and vegetables

So far Organic food CANNOT be Irradiated so if you want to avoid Irradiated foods you might want to buy organic food if at
all possible.

Did you know that your Child’s school is more then likely serving your child Irradiated foods? Well yes, back in 2002 FDA
approved the use of irradiated food in national lunch school programs.

I personally don’t think Irradiating our food is the answer to protecting humans. I believe it is just another method used
that is taking away valuable nutrients that we need to survive. Just think about it, When we cook/microwave our foods we lose up to 85%
of the nutrients.

Now Imagine Your food is:

Pasteurized then Irradiated, then cooked and/or microwaved. Do you think there are enough nutrients left for you? I highly doubt it.

My personal Thoughts:

I believe that we are going to see more and more disease because we are so nutritionally bankrupt. We wonder why we can’t stop
eating and why we are sick. Well all of the methods we use to grow, transport and cook our foods are leaving us nutritional
deficiencies.

If at all possible investigate eating raw and organic foods, this way you are able to obtain more nutrients from your food
then you can using conventional and cooked foods.

I personally became very sick on the Standard American Diet and until I started eating raw I didn’t know how my food was
processed. I think a lot of us aren’t really concerned about what we put in our mouth until we become sick.

Please share this information with your friends and family, kids and so fourth, we need to build up a generation who will
start caring for themselves and start paying attention to how food and even the environment affects us. If we don’t start
caring then we might not survive very long on this earth.

Getting caught up!! :)

July 23rd, 2008 by Tanisha

Hello All!

I am finally getting caught up since losing my data. I will be back on track Monday and will have some good info to share.

Lately I’ve been doing a lot of reading in between catching up on data that had been lost. I finally got around to reading Green For Life. This book is a must have for everyone eating a raw food diet, at least in my opinion. I am glad though that I have been drinking green smoothies since I started eating raw, but reading this book really validates the importance of green smoothies. If you haven’t read Green for Life, you might want to consider reading it.

Recently I went into a phase where I didn’t make a lot of green smoothies and I was making lots of green juices. I noticed that for me I didn’t feel bad but not as good as I did when I had the green smoothies. So now I try to have 2-3 green smoothies and 1 large glass of Green juice daily but it varies from day to day but I’ve discovered that for me I need the Green Smoothies. It’s so important to discover what works for you.

You know I have not gotten a camera yet, I need to get one bad, I’ve made some really tastey dishes lately and I have some I’d like to share but would love to have a picture of it. I believe in the next week or so I will take the plunge and buy one.

You know I find that I create my best raw food dishes while on lunch(I have a full time job). Just yesterday I created my own Raw Chili and it took only 10 mins to make, last week I made my very own Cream of Zucchini and I made that on lunch as well.

I think I need to write a book about my lunch creations. Anytime I try to create a recipe on the weekend it doesn’t work but if I just let my creative juices flow I come out with some of the most tastiest dishes. I guess we all have to find what works for us.

Well that’s all for now… Talk to you soon.

Hard Drive Failure / Keeping a postive attitude

July 15th, 2008 by Tanisha

Hello My friends. As some of you may know I lost everything I had on my hard drive, the worst part was it was my backup hard drive. I was preparing to reformat my main drive and placed everything of importance on the backup drive. While reformating the computer the Backup drive failed. So everything I had is gone.

You know I could look at this and get down and think well life is over, but I choose to think positive and get right back on track and re-write everything for my classes and other services. I lost my drive but I still have me and my knowledge so I’ll survive.

You know so many times things can happen to us in life and we’ll revert to doing something bad to ourselves, that could be indulging in bad food, drinking liquor and more, but as I’ve been discussing the last few days it’s important that we start loving ourselves and for me, thank God, I didn’t revert to my old habits. Before Raw I would have went out and ate all that I could and more until I was stuffed. Afterwards I would feel bad. Not this time.

I am keeping a positive outlook on things and I hope that you do the same. Don’t let things like this get in they way of you loving yourself and treating yourself with respect.

I probably won’t be posting anything for a couple of days but hopefully you can understand why.

Talk to you soon, hopefullly by Monday

How to love yourself - Part 2

July 13th, 2008 by Tanisha

I’d like to apologize for this article not coming out yesterday, July 12 as promised. I lost my entire hard drive yesterday and I found out that there might be a small chance to have it recovered but it would cost $800.00 to $2000.00 dollars. I am not sure yet how I’ll proceed so just know I lost everything. The worst part was it was my backup drive that failed. I had two drives and the hard drive that was newest failed, I still can’t believe what happened.

Here is the orginal Post that you should have recieved yesterday.

Hopefully you read my post from yesterday about loving yourself. If not, please jump over to this thread and read that first then come back here.

You know I was thinking, It just doesn’t make since that I tell talk to you about loving yourself but I don’t talk about how, right?

Well here are some tips on how to start loving yourself

  1. When you reach out an item, that you plan to consume or even put on your body, ask yourself, is this good for me? Does this promote a healthy body, does this bring value to my health?
  2. When you are having thoughts about something, or constantly going over and over in your mind about something you got upset about last week, stop and ask yourself, is this benefiting me, am I getting anywhere with this thought, how is this thought bringing joy or happiness in my life, is this thought providing value or stress?
  3. When you are in a heated conversation with a friend or family member or whoever, if at all possible, try to start thinking if this argument or disagreement will solve anything or if it will negatively contribute to your health. Ask yourself is this building your relationship or if this is harming your relationship with that person.

See when we care about ourselves we put more thoughts into are actions, we think before we act and we think about the outcome of an action. We when start to care we will take out the time to do this.

Don’t beat yourself up if you do something that is not showing love to yourself, but try to make a goal to love yourself more and more each day. Sometimes throughout life we make good deposits into ourselves and sometimes we make withdrawals.

Try to make more loving deposits and less withdrawals on a daily basis and over time I believe you will learn to make more loving deposits and less withdrawals.

Make a goal today to do one loving thing to yourself. For example, you may be out eating with a friend and you see a super delicious food item on the menu and oh you want it so so bad, try to take some time to think first how will this delicious looking food benefit you, take some time to think about you. Maybe you decide I want to have this, but maybe instead of eating the entire dish you decide to eat half. Some might say you don’t love yourself but if you take the step to eat only half and get rid of the rest I believe you are working towards loving yourself, you are taking actions to cause less harm to your body.

Just take baby steps, don’t make this out to be more then what it is. I think everyday we have to constantly keep depositing into the love bank and the more we do it the easier it get and the more we start to love ourselves.

Please please don’t get mad at yourself if you take more withdrawals then deposits. Try again, there is always another opportunity. The lesson here is to start thinking about your actions and the affects of your actions before you take them, but there is no reason to get mad if you act out of turn. This will take time.

Do you really LOVE, who you are?

July 11th, 2008 by Tanisha

Well this is not my weekly post, just a random post sharing some of the thoughts that have been going through my mind. (Part 2 Coming tomorrow, Tips on How to love yourself, so please subscribe or add me to your RSS feed so that you know when the next post is out)

A lot of people deal with addictions to food, drugs, alcohol and more. There seems to be one common reason why we fall prey to these things. No Self Love. We simply don’t love ourselves so instead we find something to pour our self into and don’t care whether it’s hurting us or not.

How many times have you eaten something you didn’t even want but it looked good? Me personally, to many times to count. How did I feel after I’ve eaten that meal that I didn’t want. Not very good. Most times I would be hurting or I would feel bad emotionally, it didn’t really make me feel better, it didn’t really give me joy, it just helped to push down the things I had been dealing with at the time but it never resolved anything.

I never realized until recently that I just didn’t love myself and because I didn’t love myself, I neglected my body and my health.

What does not loving yourself lead to? Stress, cancer, diabetes, Arthritis, and more. When we don’t love ourselves we simply don’t care about taking care of our body, our thoughts or how we treat others. So in turn we’ll eat something that would harm us and not care?

How many of us have known about the effects of food on our health, but never think once to change how we eat? Many many of us know how bad food is for us but we continue because we feel ok or we think we are inevitable and won’t ever become sick. This is not very smart. I had someone tell me a long long time ago, that our food was not good for us, they explained why and that I should try changing how I ate. Did I listen to that? No I kept going and guess what happened, I got sick.

Like most when I got sick, I would go to the doctor, but for some odd reason they would never find anything wrong. Well after all of this time I realized that if your not sick enough they can’t find anything so they send you home with nothing or with some experimental pills to see if they would fix the problem and there you go, on to finish ruining your life.

We have to start loving ourselves. This is so very important. You will know when you have started to do this because before you reach out for that item that will most likely harm you, you will think twice. You will think about how unhealthy it is and how it would hurt you. When we start to love ourselves we don’t put things in our body that would harm us or we don’t over indulge in things that would hurt us.

I am loving me. I don’t claim to be perfect but it is a working progress, everyday I try to do my best to love me and I notice now that loving me is more important then eating a hamburger from McDonalds, loving me is more important then trying to please people by eating what they eat. Loving me is more important then trying blend in with the crowd of people eating barbequed foods, it’s ok if I don’t eat what they eat, it’s my body why should I try to fit in. Loving me is taking care of myself.

I hope that you can find this love for yourself. Sometimes we think we love ourselves but we really don’t.

I’ll give you an example:
There have been a time during my raw journey where I would eat something that I know would cause me pain, but because I didn’t love myself I ate it. I didn’t care about the affects that it would have on me, I didn’t care at the time whether it would kill me or not, all I cared about was eating something that taste so so good whether I really wanted it or not.

How many of us do this? Many.

If we trutly loved ourselves, I believe we could really make the changes we need to and not look back. Sometimes learning to love ourselves will take a while and that is ok, as long as we know that we are missing this piece in the puzzle and are trying to change, that is all that matters.

Peace and love,
