The benefits of a good cold shower, check it out
Since going raw I’ve really grown and have changed in so many areas of my life. I am much more concerned now about the earth about myself, my family, the health of people in this world. After reading 12 Steps to Raw Foods, by Victoria Boutenko, I found out about Cold Showers, I had no idea that people actually took Cold showers or even what the benefit was. I thought I’d share with you what I found and I’ll also share below, what I think about Cold Showers.
In the midst of my findings, I found out that hot showers depress the physiological systems of the body.
What Is a Cold Water therapy?
Cold water therapy involves taking cold showers. So instead of taking a warm shower you would incorporate cold showers for some really great benefits. Check it out below.
Benefits of taking a Cold Shower
Some of the great benefits of taking a cold shower is:
- Improvement of Circulation
- Eliminating Toxins
- Reduces blood pressure
- Cleans the circulatory system
- Has even been know to fight some non-Lymph node cancers
- Helps with depression and so much more
- Helps to reduce pain (Headaches etc…)
When not to take a Cold Shower
Now you might think, why would I not want to take one, after all it’s just cold water. Well there a are a few reasons why might not want to take a cold shower:
- Women who are menstruating, should not take cold showers so ladies during this time of the month, take some time off.
- Anyone with High Blood pressure, if you have mildly blood pressure (150/100 and below) then it might be ok
- Acute Illness
- Hardening of the arteries
- Severe Back pain
My thoughts and Experience with Cold Showers
The first day I took a cold shower, was the first of many. I feel in love with it from day 1. When I first get in I start with a warm shower and then switch to cool/cold water and continually adjust the water to the highest temp I can tolerate. After a minute or less my body starts to warm up, it feels so so good. I felt like I was at a spa, really I did. To be totally honest when I was done I felt much cleaner then I do with a warm/hot shower. It is rejuvenating and it brought about a feeling of feeling so good and fresh, my thought process felt sharper, all from a cold shower that lasted about 5 -15 mins.
I can’t say enough about taking a cold shower, it has been one of the most liberating experiences I’ve had in the shower. I honestly believe that hot showers are not good for us just based on how great I feel after a cold shower. To be honest it took me a very long time to try out these cold showers and I am sad that I didn’t try it sooner. So please try a cold shower for yourself and leave a comment on how you felt after taking a cold shower.
How to properly take a cold shower
My suggestion and my suggestion only. I would suggest that you start off with a warm shower, after you get use to that (Which doesn’t take long) Start changing the temp to cool water, slowly add your hands and/or feet and then your entire body, wait a couple seconds until you are use to it and try to make the shower a bit colder. If cool is to cold then just stay at a cool temp and keep uping your temp day by day.
Additional tips and information
Water should be about 60F, but to be honest I never check the temp, not saying you shouldnt but I just Stop at a temp that is tolerable for me.
You probably won’t believe that Cold Water Therapy has been around for more then 100 years.
There have been several studies done on the use of Cold water therapy, check them out below:

What we feel and think and are is to a great extent determined by the state of our ductless glands and viscera.
